is this part of the canon storyline?

Is the Lion King 1 1/2 part of the "real" storyline or just a "what if" spinoff?
Is the backstory that is told in this film what "really" happened in the original Lion King?

There were some shocking things revealed that we didn't know were happening in the original Lion King movie.

I consider what happens before the Circle of Life canon, then everything after non-canon, but that's just me.

You know gamerguy, I'd actually probably agree with that.

I don't know what the official opinion is, but I don't consider it canon at all. I doubt they would retcon it so that everyone was kneeling because of Pumbaa's flatulance (in the original they are kneeling because of the presentation of a prince). I really doubt that they would change all the stuff from the first movie (a movie people loved) just so they could make a couple of fart jokes. Perhaps it is just Timon and Pumbaa remembering incorrectly and it is just showing how they saw things (even though it is inaccurate).

Nevermind that the timeline is also completely bizarre...

They weren't all kneeling because of the flatulance. Most were in fact kneeling because of the presence of Simba. It just STARTED with Pumbaa's fart. It made a few animals faint, and the ones in front of them were like "Oh, they are bowing to the prince, we should to!" which caused a chain reaction.

But this might not even be 100% what happened. This isn't a 100% copy of the original from their eyes, it's from their perspective. Maybe, the animals WERE really bowing to simba, but coincidentally, Pumbaa farted at the same time, and he thought that his gas caused all of them to faint.

It's a midquel so yes it is

Though it's not focused on Simba, it tells Timon and Pumbaa's story, how they were somehow involved in every major event of the original, went into detail about their life with Simba prior to his reunion with Nala, and how they helped him in the final battle.

All I don't understand is the involvement of Ma and Uncle Max in the final battle

It can only be considered canon where it doesn't contradict the events of the first movie.

Mind you, most LK fanfiction I've read is better than this shameless attempt to cash in the popularity of the original.

In terms of Timon being the main hero of this film, I completely see him as canon here.

reply

of course it's canon. Is there a reason it should not be considered as canon?

reply

Yes. Continuity errors between sequels don't mean a movie stops being canon.
