Baldwin's best role? Ever?

I've seen AB in a *beep* of movies, SNL appearances, and 30 Rock. I gotta say, he's never been better than in "The Cooler". I think this movie is more about Baldwin than WHM. (I'm a HUGE Macy fan, BTW). He's absolutely riveting, and steals every scene. Thoughts?

Son, you can't polish a turd

YES!
I've seen all his films, (except the documentary Wild Bill: Hollywood Maverick and the animated Rise of the Guardians - just because I haven't had the chance yet), all of 30 Rock and a majority of what he has done for television, (be it SNL, Friends or Saturday Night Live, and this is his most superb performance... which says quite a lot. I'm a huge Alec Baldwin fan, and whenever someone asks me what his best work is... I always say The Cooler. Man, he should have won that Oscar!

Martin Scorsese IS the best

He was a fantastic villain

Along with Glengarry Glen Ross, I'd say so.

Absolutely. This was Alec Baldwin at his finest.

Back off! ... Way off!

Don't laugh, but I really loved Baldwin in It's Complicated (with Meryl Streep). Baldwin doesn't do a lot of comedies, but this was hilarious.

And yes, Baldwin was absolutely amazing in the role of Shelly. He showed so many sides of this character, the strong arm guy, the boss who can be violent, but also vulnerable and sensitive. What an actor!!!

I felt the same way. It was probably his finest role ever. A very complicated man with many sides to his personality when faced with the truth about himself. Brilliant!

All the director had to say was "Go out there and be yourself. Be your foul-mouthed, uncontrolled angered, child name-calling, wife-beating self."

I agree, he was terrific in this.

I don't know if it's his "best" role but he's just an average actor.
