Too much Swearing

I don't want to sound like a prude but there seemed to be far too much swearing in this series, was it written by a teenager or something?? Don't get me wrong i enjoyed Odyssey 5 overall but the dialogue just didn't fit a lot of the time with *beep* this and *beep* that spread about for no real reason.

I'm not saying it should have been completly devoid of cursing but by episode 20 i had gotten a bit fed up with the dialogue.

Agreed. I f_u_c_k_i_n_g HATE when they do s_h_i_t like that!

Are you guys serious? I thought it was a breath of fresh air when during a fight between the father and son they would actually curse in a somewhat realistic manner. There was one instance where the father tells him like to grow up or something and the son goes "No, f_u_c_k you!". It just felt real. Usually in tv programmes, one of the characters would leave all teary eyed or something. Then they'd have a good cry on a friend's shoulder and release some emotional baggage to further the development of their character. In this though it wasn't so contrived and childish. They felt real emotions such as anger and they weren't afraid to show it.

The show wouldn't have worked without the language I don't think. It is by far the most realistic sci-fi show I've seen on TV just because of the way the characters talk. Not just the swearing but like jacobmarley mentioned, the argument between the father and son. That's more realistic than I've ever seen on TV.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not suggesting there should be no swearing at all, and i completely agree with you about realsitic dialogue during arguments, etc.

It just seems to me that there was far too much swearing when it wasn't really needed, during every conversation. For me the dialogue lets the show down a little. Again just to point out, overall i loved the show and its a shame it was cancelled, especially with no conclusion.

I'll bet that you would swear a lot too if you'd know about the doom of the entire Earth.

I didn't think it was overdone either. It seemed quite normal.

I think it was done within the nature of the characters. Chuck, Angela & Neil did most of the swearing but I'm leaning towards thinking it was the culture they were apart of, being pilots and all. On the contrary, Sarah never used swearing

It seems rather realistic to me. These people have knowledge that would drive me over the edge. It stands to reason that the stress they are under would show in their language.

Most skeptics are terrified it's all real and are desperate to prove otherwise.

I generally do not like a high amount of swearing, especially in TV shows, but I have to agree with another poster in that it was unusually different and made it memorable in a way. The nudity was also surprising for a sci-fi series.

But I have to say that when Peter Weller got worked up and went on a swearing rampage, he just sounded silly.

I agree there was a lot of swearing, but other than that this was probably one of the best Sci-Fi shows on television, it's to bad they cancelled it, the pilot episode really made it's mark for me imo. The story was also fresh and unique with nice hidden twists.
