Interesting Musical Cues...

So I'm sitting here watching the Science Channel and see a program called Horizon: Extreme Dinosaurs, about large pack hunting carnivores. Being a lifelong dinosaur enthusiast, I can't pass it up. As the first dramatic shots roll, I can't help but notice the extraordinarily epic music playing. Then I get to thinking, "This sounds very familiar." Then suddenly it hits me- I'm listening to David Arnold's original score to the film Stargate. I guess Jurassic Park would have been too obvious.

I just watched the Supermassive Black Holes episode, and it used music from, yes, The Black Hole (1979).

Other music cues I noticed was from Aliens,Predator and even Psycho.

I’m just imagining the Horizon dramatisation of the discovery of supermassive black holes.

Int. Day: Two pipe smoking British scientists in shabby tweed with huge handlebar moustaches and one US scientist with white coat, whiter teeth and huge beard taking it in turns to look through a telescope.

Brit 1 – I say, quite large black hole out there, what?
US – Hey, a supermassive black hole!
Brit 1 [adjusting spectacles and biting down on his pipe] – If you say so…
Brit 2 – Cup of tea?
Brit 1 – Rather!

I was watching the one about asteroids and half-way through, I notice a song from the 28 Days later soundtrack. I then played it just to be sure, and there it was...

Well in fact the black holes episode also included music composed by David Arnold for... Judge Dredd!

However, it was quite evident from the choice of tracks and the orchestrations that they were the versions performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic, and not the original recordings. As such they were the recordings of Silva Screen, a British company - and all of them appear on one of their compilation albums, once available in WHSmith for £15.

Are you an angry, lonely, old man? I bet you are, aren't you? Hopefully, you have some VHS or Betamax tapes of the 60's and 70's Horizon episodes that you can watch over and over again.

The 2008 edition, "Do You Know What Time It Is?", includes music from "Doctor Who". It's a piece entitled, "All the Strange, Strange Creatures" and it's on the series 3 soundtrack CD. So now you know.

In the episode, The Secret Treasures of Zeugma, at 35:00 minutes into the program, when they begin to uncover the mosaic floor, does anyone know the name of the music they play?
