Boohoo Sex Sells

Half of the women complain, whine and blame filmakers, producers, writers basically everyone other than themselves for creating roles for younger women and casting young beautiful actresses in movies to cater to the teenage male moviegoers. They blame filmakers for using young actresses to sell SEX rather than offering more serious roles to established actresses. OH PLEEAAASSEEE! I mean give me a break!!! With the millions of dollars these women spend on themselves in cosmetics, plastic surgery, and breasts enhancement, what do you think they are trying to sell? OBVIOUSLY SEX!!! So quit blaming producers and filmakers for using sex as a tactic to sell movies, when you are doing the same thing!!! You HYPOCRITES!!! You using sex to promote yourself. You don't see women like Kathy Bates, Joan Allen need to go for some photo shoot in some fashion magazine, but yet they still get considered for serious roles. Maybe because they don't sell sex, they sell talent. Yet actresses like Sharon Stone, and Selma Hayek will jump at the opportunity to show off their cleavage on the front cover of a magazine and use sex to promote themselves, and now that they are losing the battle to younger women and fresher faces like Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johanson, they are going to whine. Give me a break! When you actively contribute to selling sex in the media, don't turn around and spit on it just because it isn't working for you anymore. You live by it you die by it!!!

I agree--I refuse to take seriously someone like Madonna who made that conscious decision years ago to go down that road. You can't trade on sex all those years, and then turn around and ask to be taken seriously. You gave up that right. Madonna wants to play Mother Theresa? Fine-take off your top. Wanna play Lady MAcbeth? Ok by me--as long as you take off your top in at least one scene. Sharon Stone wants to treated seriously as an artist? I'm all for it--as long as she doesn't wear underwear.
You don't get to change the conditions of the game, once you agreed on the rules.

I agree, well said.

I agree with you all. I was hoping to watch an intelligent film about the struggles of working in the business and instead was wincing at the hypocrisy and inarticulate speech.

I agree with the idea somewhat. It's like being an athelete if you make your living off of your sex appeal. Michael Jordan could be angry that his career is over but it was great to have such a gift in the first place right?
I don't blame these women (and men, hello) for using what they've got.
Aren't there any who've made the transition? Any sex objects who play mature roles now?
The Lauren Bacalls and Katherine Hepburns of today?

I agree. What really irritated me was seeing Melanie Griffith, who I happen to like, being featured with her over-inflated, trout pout lips. Then Arquette herself feels the need to go on and on about Patricia's (her sister) good looks. Who is obsessed with appearance here?? And in the end, Winger stated that she really hadn't gone anywhere. I half expected to find her ice fishing in Antarctica.

As to the Hepburns and Bacalls--Look to England and Winslet, Blanchett, Mirren.

"You know why they don't write good roles for women anymore? They would have to hire ACTRESSES to play them!"

geez i just rented this claptrap.it must be so hard scraping by on the pittance that a list movies pay.after your driver picks you up from your class a motor home in the escalade and drops you off at the hyatt theres hardly time to call the kids at the beach house because the nanny put them to bed.i mentioned this to the guy that lives under the overpass up the road and he agrees, it is hard for a hollywood actress to have it all.

It's a cunnundrum, isn't it. A lot of the women in this film got parts in movies when they were younger because they were among the most attractive actresses around. Then, when they get a little older they are dropped for other young attractive actresses.

If this were the way things worked, though, how many of these women wouldn't have ever been in movies because more talented buts
If hotly les attractive women got those parts?

Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.
