There was a man that appeared many times, in many roooms, like he was a little concerned about something. The last time you see him is when all the guests were exiting the ball room and down the long stairs, just before going to the hall and before the camera turns back, it stays staring at this guy for awhile, he was kinda lost.

i remember the first time i saw him was the first time some persons starts noticing the Marquis (not the two old men in the hall)

can somebody explain me who is this man? is he important, i think he is cause the camera shot him many times.

He's a spy sent to keep an eye on the European marquis. Spies were very common, even in eighteenth and nineteenth century tsarist Russia. Foreign visitors were often tailed, just like the marquis is.

There's an end credit identifying that "The Spy" is played by one of Sokurov's favored actors.
