No Allied support ? Really

Approx 1:16 in this very good doco ... McNamara sates that "none of our allies supported us !" ... I'm sure there are quite a few Aussies that would disagree .. including me. Below is a quote taken from http://vietnam-war.commemoration.gov.au/

"The Vietnam War was the longest major conflict in which Australians have been involved; it lasted ten years, from 1962 to 1972, and involved some 60,000 personnel"

Also South Korea participated....Charlie was terrified of the ROK troops, those mothers didn't play!!

and Canada, too. He is clearly referring to the lack of support from England and France who are all but expected to support our global engagements at this point in history.

reply

What he is referring to are the major players that pledged to help the US but later on backed out. Not to take anything away from Australia but the European nations were the ones he was referring to.

reply

I got cranky too. The Americans always forget about the Australians...

When they make documentaries about Iraq and Afghanistan they'll probably forget that Australians were there, too.

true but you guys don't commit that many soldiers compared to other countries. In the end, you guys were helping us out out of WW2 obligations and Australia's own prominence in the south east asian archipelago.

South Korea Contributed the most troops and this was due to korean war obligations.
