Long or Short Version?

I'm in the U.S. and I see two versions of this available for rent. Which do you recommend for rental? I don't usually like shortened, expurgated versions of anything, but I've read some reviews that dislike the original three-part mini-series, finding it overlong. Can anyone who's seen either be able to tell me how they enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) the version they watched? Thanks.

only seen the long, so i dont know what they missed out, but despite sum reviews i really enjoyed it, deneuve was very good, and you can always enjoy the maliciousness of the characters

Definitely the short version, actually a still much shorter version would be even better.
