Did Mashkov Kill Steve?

Did Mashkov kill Steve? I didn't get quite what he said at the end, when he said, "I'm not going to kill you; I want you to see all of the (something) merchandise." Or that's how it sounded anyway. But I mean you don't just go to all of that trouble to capture a guy like Steve for killing your cousin to then not punish him, right? Or am I wrong?

The last thing Mashkov says is "I'm not going to kill you. I'm going to take you to my workplace. I think you'll be very interested in some of the machinery I work with", implying that he will not kill Steve for now he will torture him for a very long time first.

I don't buy that a person like Mashkov would believe a tale told to him by another thief, and that he'd "make a deal" for Steve.
I'm happy to go along with it. He wanted Yehven, his cousin's killer (Steve, who had his own heavy security), with little fuss and able to make some money on the side.🐭

I mean come on; this is a guy who made Skinny Pete nervous.

It's one thing to have a reputation for revenge when people screw you over. It a completely different thing to have a reputation as someone who doesn't honor a deal. One is good for business, the other is absolutely horrible.

I just finished watching this movie and am pretty sure Mastov tells Steve that he is not going to shoot him, not that he wasn't going to kill him. The message I got was that Steve was headed for the compactor back at Mastov's scrap yard.

That's exactly what happened. But it's Mashkov. Not Mastov. And what exactly does a compactor do? How would the compactor kill Steve?

reply

It's a hydraulic machine used for crushing vehicles into small volumes. From memory Steve's car was picked up by a magnetic crane, placed in a compactor and compacted. I believe Steve was in the car at the time, but cannot remember whether it was shown explicitly or implied.

I don't know what scene you are talking about. We don't see Steve die (it only becomes obvious that he would be killed with some kind of machine) and in the movie, no car was put in any compactor. You must have confused it with another movie. However, that's the method I think they used. But since it wasn't shown, we can never be sure.

Mashkov didn't say "I'm not going to kill you". He said "I'm not going to shoot you. I think you'll be very interested in some of the machinery I use". That's what he said. That means that he was going to put Steve in a machine which would kill him. He wanted Steve to have a very painful and slow death as he felt that a gunshot would be very quick. That's why he said I'm not going to shoot you. When he said I think you'll be very interested in some of the machinery I use, he meant that he would use his machinery to kill him. Watch that scene again. Watch this scene and you'll see what happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b67NyMXEjuI
