FINALLY, A remake better than the original!

I watched this film from start to finish, and I was SO happy by the end. It works better as a serious film, than a Brit comedy (although I admit I enjoyed this also!)

Caine was quite good in the original - BLOW THE DOORS OFF MATE! - is a great moment, however against Wahlberg, Norton Theron - need I continue?

10/10 from start to finish. Original 7/10.

I haven't seen the original, but I'm always suprised that many people call the remake a "serious film." That wasn't my impression at all, it was pure popcorn pleasure. I found it quite funny and I don't think it was unintentionally so. The original is on my list of films to watch and I'm aware people generally say that one is a genuine comedy but as I said I totally enjoyed the remake and rated it an 8. Don't ask me to justify my statement cos I haven't seen it since it was out at the theatres so I'm a bit hazy on details, I just remember my impression.

I've always preferred the original. It was my favourite film so when the new one came out I was kind of disappointed - they used the names of a couple of people from the original (oddly, they seem to have gotten younger over the years) and use new Mini Coopers as getaway cars. In my mind that's just an atttempt to rip off the original. If the remake had unique characters and didn't use the same title, I'd probably like it more.

You're only supposed to blow the doors off!

Just wanted to say - hell, yeah, I agree completely! I saw them both not long after each other, the original first, and I still came away preferring this one. It's not often that that happens. Proof that remakes don't have to suck.

There's a plan in everything, kid. And I love it when a plan comes together!

Mini Coopers.

BMW (Bayerische Motorenwerke) is German not British BTW.

If the idea is to stay alive, I'm driving.

Oops, I forgot. Yeah it's the BMW group. But thinking of BMW I never think of Mini, haha. I'm thinking of this for example:

A Mini might be fun but driving a BMW is almost better than flying.

Yeah, um, no. Just no. The original is 10 times better than this. They had a chance to "blow the doors off" the original with the driving scenes here. They didn't. They blew it, all right.

And don't even get me started on the cheesy Hollywood ending.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Nah. It's terrible.

reply

I agree, this is 50x better then the original, I liked the original but this is leaps and bounds better. The way the original ended was as dumb as you can get.

reply

Nah, it was funny and non-cliche unlike the typical crap Hollywood ending we get here.
