Omnidroid outsmarts Syndrome but not the Incredibles

When Syndrome tries to appear as a new superhero the droid shoots the remote off of Syndrome's wrist and he flees hitting his head. Clearly Syndrome was surprised at the droid's reaction.
The Incredibles used the remote then to defeat it.
Why didn't the Omnidroid do something like smash the remote?
