Why this may go over your head...

I thought this movie was hilarious. I also thought, however, that you must either be Jewish or know a lot about Jews/Judaism to get the jokes. I can understand how someone who is not Jewish would find this boring. My slow Christian friend wanted to watch it with me, and I talked her out of it. I knew that I would have been explaining the entire Jewish religion and every Jewish stereotype known to man while we watched it, only to have her forget everything I taught her the next day. Has anyone here watched this with a gentile who "didn't get it?" Are there any people here who watched this and simply didn't "get" the jokes?

I'm not Jewish but I love this film - found it again in a bin for $2 and grabbed it!

I think anyone who is a fan of film and has seen alot of Jewish comedy will get this movie. It's not just Jewish humour but also just alot of humour about stereotypes and film references GALORE!

Plus I worked for a summer at a JCC camp, so I think I got some of the deeper Jewish refs that I may not have if I hadn't had that experience. The "Shekit.." line when he was trying to get the Jewish Justine League to calm down made me laugh hysterically because that was how we shut the kids up during assembly in the camp! Gold!

Adam Goldberg was perfect in this.

Shouldn't have anything with your religion unless you don't watch tv or movies. Jews have been played on forever in the media, how could anyone not get the stereotypes. I love when they do the old private eye b/w scene!!!!!!!!!

I couldn`t agree more ( otherwise, my reply wouldn`t show up, so
I reverse my opinion for this very sake ;)

The is the very best of Hollywood, it`s core and what Hollywood is all about.

I wouldn`t go that far, as to accuse Academy Rewards of antisemitism
( you know, this fashism, or what...)
but maybe someone has got a clue, why ( who stood behind it ?)
this C-movie wasn`t nominated in all categories.

But, on more serious note.
I watched this uiltimate and offensive rubbish jus because of Judy Greer
one of the most fascinating woman around
( sadly, much unused in some greater films, like a lerad in rom-com )
and she didn`t disappoint me one bit.
She`s adorable and has fantastic range of girly expressions
and I am gonna marry her one day...
(or another ;-)

FurBallsUnite, I did what you didn't want to do with my Christian best friend and she loved it, she thought it was hilarious, as did I. But when I made a reference to it later, she was like "huh?" and I realized that she barely got any of it. Lol....there are certain parts that are funny to everyone though. I can't blame her, so much of this would be hard for people who didn't know much about Judaism to get.

Oh, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!
