Wakka and His Movie Weapon

So say there was to be a FFX movie and all characters were intact. Obviously there would be fighting so the weapons from the game would be in the movie. However, Wakka has a problem. It works fine for a game, but throwing a volleyball (blitzball) at an enemy and it magically coming back wouldn't work so well.

So I'm brainstorming on what kind of weapon would work for Wakka and I need some ideas. Ideally, the weapon is not a sword and should be something that has distance. I was thinking something like having some type of rope that wraps around his body with blades on both ends that he can twirl or lasso at an enemy from a distance. Thoughts?
