Why does it have to be played online only?

I dont have nearly enough money to pay for a fast connection of internet. My goodness i feel so depressed... so deprived... so suffocated.

reply

You don't need a fast internet connection for this game, 56k works just as good.
Im a beta tester for this game, I love it

Final Fantasy 12 is going to the next "real" FF game. IMO Square fuc*ed up by making an online game. I don't care much for online gaming myself. I like sitting down playing an RPG namely Final Fantasy games at my own pace. I don't want to have to pay to play a Final Fantasy game. Expecially since there has already been 10 of them out before this one. I'm glad 12 is going to be offline. When I first heard about 11 being online. I was already anticipating 12.

reply

Here. Here. I agree with. I purchased FFXI thinking I could just play it on my PC, but then I discovered about having to pay more and displaying some of my privacy issues. I am glad I found the reciept so I can return it and get a refund. Good thing FFXII is offline. =)

Final Fantasy XI was online because it was a MMORPG. Final Fantasy X-2 and X-3 were made to keep the CRPG fans happy.

reply

You F*cker, online = MMORPG and second of all FFX-3 ??? IN Your Wed Dreams

reply

X-3 didnt know that is being made, i hope not because X2 was rubbish, cheesy, i hate rikku and completey turd compared to ffX which i liked. Darker though which is the only good thing about it.

reply

They should have called it Final Fantasy Online and kept it out of the main series like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Final Fantasy Tactics.

reply

yep final fantasy 12 should have been 11. Also the reason for paying is because they are making updates and new levels and stuff. Because of that it costs money since its continuious. Had it been like released and would only have an update every so often then its would be cheaper/free. Also servers.

reply

I totally agree with you exsanguinator, FFX-2 did a great job *beep* up the FFX storyline and ruining the game for me. Theres no way square is making an X-3 and if they do something is seriously wrong. FFXII better be good or im gunna be pissed, looks to me like their changing to much for my tastes.

reply

FFX2 was just like any other sequel. It wasn't a bad game. The dialogue just sucked alot. I really liked the setup of the game and I hope they do more like it. The main story of the game was really good. The dialogue and sidequests just weren't as good as they could have been. And then there was the whole rave infulence on it.

Game companies have to change with the times. How many times can you play through FF6 or FF7? My main beef with Square Enix at the moment can be boiled down into two points: 1) FFXI is not a main sequence game. It doesn't deserve to be number 11 and it shouldn't have been called so, and 2)the word on FFXII is that the battle system is going to be like Star Ocean. Can you guess why I don't like SO? because the battle system sucks.

Why don't they just call it "the fans can eat our @$$ we're going to make Final Ocean our new franchise"? As far as I am concerned Final Fantasy died at FFX and they are going to have to make an absolutely fantastically groudbreaking game with FFXII to get me interested in the series again. If that doesn't happen I'm going to go back to mastering the sphere grids for everyone in FFX again. (Yuna has 7000 HP hehehe) or finding all of the summons in FF6 (haven't played it in a LONG time. can't remember where they all are).

The heart and soul of every final fantasy is the battle system. New and innovative every time. But they're about to borrow a system from a completely different franchise. They're going to have to do it really well and back it up with a GREAT story or I'm not going to play it.

Sorry guys, you bought Enix, no need to become Enix now too.

Yo know, I wouldn't be surprised if Square kills off the FF online thing in the
next five years and puts an edited version out for the home video console,

I bet it would go something like this:

Square Enix has announced today that they will discontinue their
Final Fantasy Online Service. The reason for the cancellation
is that Square has stated losing too much money on the product as the reason.
To make up for the inconvenience they will produce an edited
version of the FF Online game for the playstation 3 or 5 or 23, whatever
model they will be up to by then for the fans to play at home.

(Now watch somebody looking through the message boards will see this
take it seriously as an actual statement by square and everybody
will be spreading it all over the internet:)

If the game is so friggin huge why can't they just spread it over
two or three disks like 7 8 and 9 were for the PS1.

I don't wanna see the game fail, but at the same time I am
not going to pay $500 dollars for the equipment and upgrades to my
computer to play it. On a good day I get a connection of 48000 bps.
This thing would just squash this 1996 model Im using.

And I would feel sorry for everyone who paid all that money to play it
only to be told it's being cancelled but that's okay you can buy our
edited home console version for $60. (I think I will wait for an edited
version), or whenever I get a new computer in the next 5 or 10 years that
could handle this thing.

reply

personally i agree with scifi in the fact
that they should have made it off line in multiple discs like make it a different game not completely i mean same npcs but change the partying system so you could recruit ppl like in ff7 and you recruit ppl depending on your choices
you should be able to buy both versions
one online
multi disc offline play
although i agree its bad to have to pay so much 12.99 $ for your first char and 1.99 or 99 for each after that but its esential as stated above
i play my uncle got me into it after awhile i decided to play and ever since ive been addicted

i dont advise buying if you have
extreme social obligations/family obligations (i.e. kids)/or if you simply have a time consuming job or if you dont have time to play because most people i know that play play often or hardcore
unfortunately its a must for online gaming to get ahead so i personally have alot of time to play so i can afford to play this game if you cant why are you complaining? you know its donr you know its not going to become a single player any time soon Square has stated that

reply

I really don't think so. Actually, no.

When you posted this comment (as old as it is to me even now), FFXI had a subcriber base of over 1 million people. If i recall, that mark was reached well before your post. Thats 1 million people times $14/month and $20-60/game sold, plus additional money for those who bought expansion packs. So in other words, the game is not failing, it's prospering. Also, it's been revealed by Square that the game will be ported onto next gen systems, the 360 and ps3 at least, so there will be even more subscribers from the xbox community. And when the game does begin to lose money/popularity, it's very likely a second one will be made for online play (perhaps more like FFVII as far as environment goes). So it would make absolutely no sense to waste time trying to make FFXI as a single player game once this occurs. And as far as fitting a MMORPG like FFXI on 3 discs, that would make for some serious communication/lagging problems for realtime play over a network..."Oh, could you hang on a sec, I have to change the disc before I can get to that area..." Also, I'm not even sure what the point of your post was...your using a computer from 1996, expect to plunk down $500 for upgrades if you want to do anything beyond the basics.

lmao A little late to this but I had to respond, I doubt the user even cares about the subject anymore. But 2012, still going strong. No talk of it going offline.

reply

I agree. This game completely alienated long-time fans of the series. It IS a decent game, but Final Fantasy is MEANT to be single-player. At no point until this came out was I ever disappointed in the linear series. Now, we have to pretend that X-2 is the real XI, because 10 years from now, XI will be the only one we can't play anymore.

reply

This game COULD be remade into a single player, but I don't really see the point. I'm just thinking of what would transfer. The battle system is a little better but you'd be collaborating with computer controlled characters (it's frustrating enough working with real people, but they tend to heal or provoke when asked nicely). Ok, but if that doesnt transfer and they just used the same old turn based battle system, what else is there? The story could be transfered. And it'd actually be sort of interesting to have a "choose your nation" option. The problem here is FFXI online has a good story, but it lacks personal elements. These personal elements of the story are filled in by the people you meet. I met a hume white mage in Kahzaam and we're on pleasant terms. I met a taru monk outside of Sand'oria. We fought in a garrison or two. I'm an elvaan warrior in a club full of high level mages.

So if the only thing that could be carried over is the world map and the topical storyline (the personal elements will be filled in). Then why even remake this game as a single player? (shrug) Eh. There are some neat locales though.

www.computerandvideogames.com:

Japanese superstar publisher Square Enix has emphasised that online gaming is the way forward for its RPG-heavy titles and has stated that every console in the future will feature full online capabilities, according to statements emerging from the company's shareholder meeting.

Discussing revenue plans for the coming year, Square Enix warned that profits could suffer as the current generation of consoles gives way to the next-gen, but assured shareholders that investment in online gaming now would offer great returns in the long run.

To achieve this long-term profit, SquEnix is already growing its online sector faster than the market actually needs so that it is at the forefront when more and more players get the ability to play online.

SquEnix has already had success in the online sector, with Final Fantasy XI on PC and PS2 snatching the publisher a 50% share of the massively multiplayer market in Japan. According to Square, FFXI has also "beaten EverQuest in America" and is "doing well in Europe."
Other topics of discussion were Final Fantasy XII on PS2, expected to finally launch next year and sell 3 to 4 million copies in Japan; The next instalment in the massively popular Dragon Quest franchise, which was neatly ducked by the SquEnix spokespeople; and ex-Square golden child Hironobu Sakaguchi's new Mistwalker studio, which evidently has absolutely no financial connection to Square Enix.

I have been playing the game for over 18months and I am totally hooked, obviousily I am biased.

From my experience every person that blasts this game including my friends dont own the game, never played the game or only got a character to less than 10. You have no way enough experience of the game to give a valid opnion.

The only bad reviews from the customers are people that dont even own the game! they just moan about the online subscription, which in the long run you save money from not buying any other game.

I love the other final fantasies also, including this one and I am a hardcore fan.

It appears your predictions are wrong and the online market is the future. I have played Doom III, Gran Turismo 4, MGS3, Farcry and since Final Fantasy XI: Online I always get bored of other games, I miss interaction with real people and its changed my entire opnion about games.

I hope it didn't sell out. But the team was totally different for X-2, so you can't use it as an example for the series.

I personally found X, X-2, and XI all sub-par FF titles, though.
