What is this game?

What is this game?
I feel like I haven't heard anything about it ever, and I really don't know anything about it. Does it actually exist?
It's not sold anywhere, nobody has it, nobody talks about it, it's like some strange video game cover up that the public can't know about.
Is there some kind of story to it, or behind it?
Does it even have Chocobos?

reply

Well you can buy it on Play.com for £11 or something including all expansion packs. It also has a huge fanbase (i think) and there are Chocobo's in it. personally i hated it but i like XII it's because there is no sort of lead story to follow. I like to unravel dark secrets and open mysterious tombs not run aorund hitting things and not talk to anyone. It gets boring real fast. But you should try it for yourself.

Clearly you didn't play very far into it ^_^

There IS a main storyline... six of them at present, in fact. One for each nation and one for each expansion.

It's one of only two MMORPGs I've played, but I love it to death. Playing it right now, actually.

You pay a monthly fee just like WoW. Gotta pay for the servers and support some how.

If you like MMORPGs its pretty damn fun. Lots of stuff requires you to go in a party (group of people) so it helps along the friend making process.

I've been playin for 3 weeks now and I'm a lvl 13warrior/8monk. I find it pretty fun everytime I play. Huge worlds, tons of people playing. The graphics are pretty nice considering its a Online game. Square Enix didnt sell out, they gave into the demand for an MMO and did a better job than Blizzard as far as I can see.

There is no beginning tutorial, because you can do whatever you want.

www.ffxiclopedia.com for a "tutorial" like helper site.

Unfortunately for most, it does take some intelligence to be successful at the game.

Yes there are chocobos.

actually you're right i didn't play to far into it because it was boring. When i launched it i didn't get some sort of training session. It just throws you in. What got me the worst was the boringness of it all (did i mention that?) SWG is much better at least before NGE and i'm now playing LOTRO which is a vast improvement on them all. I've never played WoW and never will.

The lower levels are there for you to find your feet and figure out how to play the game.

You learn over time and the longer you play the easier it is to adapt to the rich, compelling world of Vana'diel.

The game pwns. Fact.

I played WoW once and I spat on it.

FFXI kicks it jobbymaker :)

I did a two day trial on WoW and could not get into it at all, been playing FFXI for over a year now! And I love it, it does take a while to get into and I think the graphics are okay, plus when did graphics make a game? So long a they are okaya dn the game is playable, I prefer GAMEPLAY to graphics but still! FFXI rocks! LVL 30 WAR/15 MNK

AGREED. FFXI is MUCH richer and more satisfying than WoW. Any clownshoe can reach level cap in WoW with virtually NO skill involved. FFXI takes patience, skill, teamwork, knowledge of your job/mobs, and has an amazing storyline. WoW is MEH...

Having played FFXI for a year before quitting for WoW and playing WoW for 3 years,.. I am now returning to FFXI

Why?

WoW is quick fun, sure, but there is little sense of accomplishment,.. oh, sure there was before the burning crusade (Defeating Lucifron for the first time, epic! Onyxia - Amazing, Ragnaros, just brilliant) - But now, it's just an easymode game that gives away welfare gear

Any chump can get to level 70, and PVP for a few hours being crap, and earning epics, currency is too easy to come by,.. it's too easy,.. and there's no sense of any achievement

FFXI had cutscenes (which were brilliant) - a HUGE sense of achievement when you managed to get something, when I played, I was one of the first non-japanese players to get a full artefact armored monk, and boy, it was something, it took effort, friends, skill and ability and it was so worth the reward,..

FFXI has a lot more depth than WoW if you ask me,... WoW can surely be more fun for the casual gamer,.. and it's faster,.. but if you're a mature patient player who wants a long term game with satisfying results,.. FFXI wins hands down

A big flaw of FFXI was having to party with a full group to achieve anything, but the big insentive I have for returning to FFXI (hopefully tomorrow when the 2008 EU edition comes out) is that I have 5 other friends (in real life) all starting at the same time as me, and we'll have a static party from the word go,.. I'm looking forward to it so much, such a great game, the graphics are stunning in my opinion, especially considering they're 6 years old and still hold up rather nicely

Well, there's my 2 cents

i had played this game for about 4 years, quit about 6 months ago and im still having withdrawls. it was my first 'true' mmorpg i ever really got into. i played Everquest Online Adventures for the ps2, but eventually moved to this and it was a great leap of an enhancement. graphics are stellar; gameplay is rather slow, but very rewarding; the variety of things to do is nearly overwelming (choco racing, beast pit fighting, ballista (pvp), holiday based mini quests, hundreds of random quests, artifact equipment, and a number of skills to lvl up, plus alot more) sometimes i really do think about gettin back in.
