What made it so expensive?!!

It cost $60 million to make despite only two noticable VFX shots. Does anyone at imdb know exactly why?!! Please send me reasons!

My guess would be salaries.

I agree that Eddie Murphy's salary was the biggest chunk of the cost, Jeff Garlin coming off the popularity of Curb Your Enthusisam must have gotten paid well. Then the cost of the kids... insurance etc.... but I am also willing to bet that DC Comics charged a pretty penny to allow for the use of The Flash... not 20 Million worth, but still I am sure they didn't let it go cheap.

All of the kids were probly twins, (you know, like those Olsen girls). So all the salaries of the kids would have to be doubled, (eg: 1 x 2 = 2).

They weren't actually if you click on their links.

Maybe that's why - they neeeded a way bigger timeframe

reply

Yeah.. I heard it took a long time to shoot because kids can only shoot for a few hours at a time... I think the max is 6 hours a day. The kids are in almost every scene, too. There was something on the DVD about this.

Eddie Murphy and Anjelica Huston took pretty big checks for it.

That's about 30 or 40 million right there on both of them.

Getting Murphy ain't cheap.

It's that man again!!

Couple reasons.

1. Salaries- Eddie Murphy, Regina King, Anjelica Houston and Jeff Garlin

2. Kids on set- Much higher Insurance

3. Set locations, alot of times movies have to travel far just for one scene (Look at the movie Midnight Run, they went to New Zealand just for one small scene). So al the travel costs and meals and lodging for everyone in the movie for the scene to travel.

4. Music & Product placement...Jackson 5 & DC comics for Flash.

5. Sets- TVs, Cars, Golf Course, Office Buildings. Having to rent all those places or builds sets.

6. Potentially Taxes for states with higher taxes.
