Was this a true story?
Because it sure had the pacing of one. Some of the characters were engaging but it meandered quite a bit. So much of it was just the squalor tour. Gross people doing gross things. I did not feel drawn into the movie until Ned showed up. Then it seemed like a plot was developing (and the film is half over). I do give props to production, acting, and cinematography but I got tired of playing "find the plot." By the end, I was happier with the film as a whole but didn't especially like it. The star was likeable and usually at the heart of the parts of the movie that were great.
True stories in film tend to suck unless tons of liberties are taken. Storytelling 101.
