Major plot hole...

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. It's witty, colorful, and my little boy loves it. So, after seeing it for the 30th time, it dawned on me. Huuuuge issue with the plot.

For starters, why didn't Lightning make a single call? He obviously didn't want to be there (at first), so why not make a call before he saw the judge or after he was sentenced? There was obviously a phone, unless Doc was insane enough to drive all the way to some other town in order to tip the reporters off as to Lightning's whereabouts.

But my main issue is/was: Why the heck didn't Lightning just PAY to fix the road. None of them wanted him there; Doc wanted him out of the town and only kept him there because Sally convinced the town that Lightning had to fix the road, and Lightning certainly didn't want to be there. So why, oh why, didn't Lightning just take use some of his superstar winnings to have the road paved? I mean, if a person drives their car into someone else's house, the court doesn't make that individual PERSONALLY fix the house. They make the offender pay for the damages.

I realize that the creators had to have a reason to make him stay otherwise there wouldn't be a story/movie, but the plot hole is just ridiculous.

For one, it shows a close-knit community that all depend on each other. They have what they need to pave the roads. If someone's going to pave the roads then they're going to do it. It wasn't about having the money because money didn't mean anything to them. As the guy Luigi shows he just wants customers or a sale, he's practically willing to give tires away. Lightning was to be taught a lesson and given punishment. It was his job to repair the roads. It was a way to teach one of these "racers" a lesson for wrecking their road. They were more about taking a ride slow and against that fast-life.

I don't think he made a call to anyone because he didn't think he had to. He was Lightning McQueen and had always been given special treatment. He was loved. I doubt he had anyone to call and I think that's what the movie is showing. The only person he ever talked to on the phone was his agent Harv and that's when Harv called him. I doubt he knew anyone's phone number off the top of his head or had a personal phone that wasn't in the truck where he basically lived in.

I think that answers everything and I don't think those were plot holes either.

So, the punishment was more like serving community service time?

Unless I'm mistaken, Doc said: "I hereby sentence you to community service."

These aren't plot holes. Lighting wasn't allowed to make a phone call because he was sentenced to community service.

He was sentenced to fix the road that's what he was to do. Not pay for it. What you're doing is applying our real world happenings to this fictional world of Cars. So Lighting McQueen supposedly has money (I don't know how much considering he's backed by Rust-eeze) him fixing the road would actually be quicker and cheaper than bringing in someone to fix it.

The Legend of Korra Book 4 is the biggest dip in quality of any show ever.
