Are there any similar films to One Point 0?

I say similar, though i mean in any way at all. Its mostly the atmosphere i like, very ultra modern / old if you know what i mean.

Thanks

You might enjoy Delicatessen(1991), excellent movie.

You might want to check out Cypher. I loved that movie, much to my own surprise. The movie does not look as dark as One Point O (the shots, I mean), but the story is. And it is a mindfrell (to use a Farscape term) movie, just like One Point O. Maybe even more so. IMDB: "An unsuspecting, disenchanted man finds himself working as a spy in the dangerous, high-stakes world of corporate espionage. Quickly getting way over-his-head, he teams up with a mysterious femme fatale."

Don't know if you have seen Pi, a cult movie that has become somewhat of a classic among its peers. Dark and gloomy, and also a nice workout for the brain. I'm not very mathematical, I'm hardly beta at all, but also for people like me this is a very enjoyable one. IMDB: "A paranoid mathematician searches for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature."

If you want to get a bit more scifi, check out Dark City (the one from 1998 with Kiefer Sutherland). Talk about ultra modern/old. The feel I got from this movie was like taking Twelve Monkeys and placing it in a Victorian version of the 1930s. Something like that. Cool atmosphere. IMDB: "A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans."

A movie that you will probably either love or hate is Renaissance (the one from 2006). It's a beautifully animated b/w movie, also dealing with corporate evil. IMDB: "In 2054, Paris is a labyrinth where all movement is monitored and recorded. Casting a shadow over everything is the city's largest company, Avalon, which insinuates itself into every aspect of contemporary life to sell its primary export - youth and beauty. In this world of stark contrasts and rigid laws the populace is kept in line and accounted for."

These are just a few from the top of my head, hope there's one you'll like.

I think 1.O is somehow a concept movie. It creates a world of it's own, a bit based on the real one, but the majority of the concept rotates on it's own axis. And I'm not talking about the script, I'm talking about the cinematics, the things that transpose words into motion pictures.

From what I remember, I recommend you Brazil, Dark City, Delicatessen, The Machinist, Pi of course, Blade Runner for it's fantastic bleak and dystopic world, The City of Lost Children, The Hudsucker Proxy, 1984. I'm sure there are more, but these I remember now.

"Bon appétit" ;)

I would reccomend Jericho Mansions, it really has the same surreal atmosphere,
and Delicatessen is very close too, also I will suggest to see Spider
(by David Cronenberg) and Identity. Oh and there is this new movie called The Nines...

I definitely loved Primer. A truly original scifi movie.

All great movies. because you already mentioned Hudsucker Proxy: Try "Barton Fink" and "Naked lunch". Both are not Hightech/Lowtech, but disturbingly surreal.

Thematically Cronenberg´s excellent Videodrome. And Matrix of course.

If its similar atmosphere/art direction, you wont be disappointed with Avalon.

Directed by the guy who did Ghost in the Shell its one of the best head-mangling sci-fis there is.

As for paranoia and dark atmosphere, The machinist beats them all...

Thomas in Love (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262826/

This Belgian movie also takes place in an undefined near future. The whole movie is in first person perspective of the main character, who never leaves his apartment. Therefore technology is a central theme here... check it out. A very compelling, original film.
