Lovely story, beautifully told, and a very compelling and enjoyable film. Worth seeing more than once! I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciated this movie and how delighted I was viewing it. Kurosawa wrote the screenplay, did the storyboards, wrote all the production notes, and all this was lovingly followed by a director who wished to pay a grand tribute to a grand master!

I agree. Personally, I didn't find it as un-Kurosawa-like as some people. There was a slightly magical feeling to the movie, and it was more optimistic than some of his other work, but it seemed to have the same flavour as his earlier films. I enjoyed it very much.
