I should have known better...

... than to listen the the bad reviews this movie received from critics back in 2003. I didn't see this movie then, and I feel pretty foolish about that. I just saw it tonight, and it was wonderful! I think it's pretty obvious that most of those critics don't interact with adults with disabilities on a regular basis, so I'll give them the benefit of not realizing how good Cuba Gooding's protrayal actually was. I think it was on the same level as Leo Di Caprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

I remember seeing the trailer and maybe some promos back in 2003 I couldn't give a rat's about football or sports movies in general, all I remembered was Cuba shouting 'It's Radio!'. I even worked at a movie theater and could have seen it for free but never did. Cut to like a few winters ago a day or two before the Super Bowl , which I had started to at least watch every year, and I decided to pick this movie that night on Netflix.
I can't say what my opinion would have been back then , but I certainly enjoyed the film that night. Reminded me of Forest Gump and other small town/based in truth dramas. I especially liked the 'head douche' turning around in the end and turning out for the better.
