I just found out this movie bombed horribly

Whoa!! Only 121 millions so far, barely 21 mils over 100 millions budget. I don't understand why this film made so low, and this movie is the best version out of all the Peter Pan movies. I've watched this movie like ten or fifteen times back when I was younger. It even got fresh rating in Rottentomatoes.

Bad marketing? Bad advertisement?

I have a secret. I have a: You looked. I'm disappointed in you. 😖

It got released the same week as LOTR: Return of the King, I believe. So bad timing.

reply

Damn.  Should have been released in different time, then.

I am interested in knowing why you think this, what better versions have come out since 2003, and why? I thought that Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood were quite good in this. And it followed the spirit of what was originally written, if not the exact script and ages of the characters.

It is a very dark movie and not one for the littleuns, and is more about awakening sexuality, and two kindred spirits who band together to try to defeat the evil Captain Hook than earlier versions.

There is a lot more in this than other version of the same play, including the original stage version , and is well worth a watch or three. By far the best of the big screen versions and sadly underrated and under loved.

And at least Tink was created evil and jealous as per Mr Barrie's original, unlike the cute little Disney fairy

I think that because I think that way. Having watched probably all versions of PP this one comes out way down the list in terms of how I enjoyed it.

As for what versions have come out since 2003...do your own research. IMDB can help you in that matter.

This is a far superior version compared to the live action prequel Pan by Disney. Almost as good as the Disney animated Peter Pan, and before imdb wiped this board fans held it close to Hook which is a much loved live action version.

-On October 3rd He asked me what day it was "What day is it?" "It's October 3rd"-

reply

Um Disney's Tink was jealous and bitchy. She even tried to kill Wendy and was happy that she tried. What else do you need ?

reply

Sadly it had a really bad timing. Lord of the Rings came out the same year and you can not beat Lord of the Rings. I really love Peter Pan and it will always have a special place in my heart <3

That is one box office failure that always made me feel bad for all involved. The movie was a critical success both with professionals and the general public alike but yeah it failed really, really badly. When an actual good film bomb it's really sad and I do consider this film to be good. Still my favorite film based on Peter Pan and the one version that stay the most true to the book.

Agree with everyone about LotR. There was no beating it and it's not like the studio really wants to push the movie to the next year; it had a great Christmas slot. I love Peter Pan and I was 21 when this movie came out. It was also the first thing I drove myself to when I learned to drive (I was a late bloomer) so it meant a lot to me and was a great movie. haha, I also remember the movie was near a LotR theater so during a quiet part of the movie I could hear some Nazgul screeching in the next room. I think they were attacking Minas Tirith, lol

I think we also have to remember that it is also an older story. Everyone knows the Disney version so the excitement to go see it would not have been as big if it was an original story. I love it. I think Jeremy Sumpter was the best peter pan. Jason Isaacs was an amazing Captain hook. It deserves more than it got.

I'm sad it bombed too. This is my favorite version of the story-- I've loved it ever since I was a kid, though unfortunately I only got to see it once it was out on DVD and not in the theater. The art direction and performances are just perfection.

It was definitely bad timing that tanked it though. That and people might have written it off for being darker than the more famous Disney version.

Is this film based on the original book by Barrie? Saw Hook years ago, and the Disney classic as a teen in the 80's. There is a 2019 Pinocchio based on the original book as well. It's really good. I hope this is on YT or DVD. I also saw Finding Neverland as well. I saw on a video that Tiger Lily speaks in her native tongue in this film.
