I've just read a review on Open Range in which is stated that Mose was of Jewish descent but couldn't find any evidence.
Does anybody have a proof or indication??

There's nothing in the movie that I recall that indicates Mose is or isn't Jewish. The character who plays him - Abraham Benrubi, a long-time regular on ER - is Jewish.

Of all of the least relevant things to ask! Why not ask if Denton Baxter is Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland? Many folks in the Old West of the 19th Century had Old Testament names such as Abraham as in Abraham Lincoln. Was he Jewish? What reviewer would think Mose Harrison's religion was important, someone from Al-Qaeda?
shareI think it was asked because the review the OP read stated it, raising the question "Why did the reviewer think he was Jewish". I don't imagine it was something that was randomly pondered while they were watching the movie.

the OP's question is not so irrelevant as one might think. Until the Twentieth century, Jews were viewed as foreigners at best, regardless of how long they lived in their country of residence. I myself am a United States citizen. I was born in Modesto, California and live in Tidewater, Virginia. I am of an exotic persuasion. I know more of this countries history than the rednecks and blacks with whom I work, yet they view me as a foreigner. Thank goodness I am treated equitably; otherwise I would have to move away.
I myself wondered at Mose's background as he is distinctly different from his fellows. More so than Button (for me), in spite of Button's accent. Button has more in common with the crowd than does Mose.
It always makes me chuckle when people go straight to "religion" when the issue of being Jewish comes up. While Catholicism and Protestism are religions, Judaism is more involved. It is actually about a culture and a people. The religious aspect is only part of it. Whether it was the film producers intentions or not, Mose's character is different from his fellow cowboys and westerners.
Next time, try not to be so hasty towards another person's query. It could be instructional.

However, none of the issues that you refer to are present to any degree in the movie regarding Mose - or any other character that I recall. In fact, the only personal characteristic, or "difference," regarding Mose that comes up is his size.
So how exactly is it "instructional" to speculate that Mose is Jewish?

my post was in defense of the OP's query. He saw something that made him wonder about a certain character in the film. I myself saw something as well, but not enough to lead me to something as specific as the OP. Some on this thread see the OP's question as being offensive.

So, assuming the original poster is telling the truth, why would the idea appear in a review? And why is it still being "discussed" here?
