I tried to like this movie...

But I can't.

Maybe it's just me; but the build up to the big shoot out was pretty good I guess. I enjoyed the little shopping scene; and the multiple trips to the doctor's house.

But the shoot-out was just cheesy and uninspiring.

I was waiting to be awed; but it never happened.

2 against 4 or 5 in the beginning; then people scatter.

Then some town folks get into the shoot out.

Then the irish guy comes back and get shot.

Couple more people get shot.

The end.

Ha! This post cracks me up. Yeah, I didn't care for the movie the first time I saw it, either. But I was young, so I gave it another shot tonight. Still too boring for me. Maybe I'll wait another 7 years and watch it again ;)

First of all, we can't expect to all like the same things, and I respect the fact that you didn't like it. But what is so amazing is that I feel so completely opposite of you. I love this movie-every last bit of it.

Considering the movie is 139 minutes long, even if you intensely disliked the last 15 minutes I'd say overall you actually _did_ like this movie.

The shootout is my least favorite part too, but overall the movie was great.

I felt almost the exact opposite. Aside from the shoot-out, which I thought was pretty good, if a little drawn out, I thought it was all rather mediocre. It all just felt a bit "flat"; not much tension leading up to the finale, slightly unbelievable romance, character that're likeable, but I just can't care that much about. Gambon was a good villain, for the short time he was on camera, but still nothing compared to, say, Hackman in Unforgiven. Definitely not a bad film, per se, just somewhat disappointing.

I loved the final shootout. I liked the fact that it wasn't a bang bang you're dead type deal. Reading historical accounmts of the time period made it seem that if you weren't standing pretty much right in front of the guy and not much further away than 10-15 feet, you were likely to miss.
