This Movie

This movie was wonderful, Every aspect of it. Story, acting, scenery, and a 7.3? Cmon

reply

I agree, and I was fortunate enough to see it in theaters. 7.3 seems about right... Considering the fact that a lot of today's generation aren't interested in westerns.

Good point. Big screen would've been great instead of a 32" no doubt.

Considering how under-rated the film is, I think 7.3 is a pretty good score.

It's a beautiful movie, and one that has a big heart to it. But it is that sense of the old fashioned, and the obvious and loving homage to the genre, that introduces a lot of cliches and, frankly, absurdities, into the movie.

I can live with the relentless cliches and take this movie for what it is; but when you tread such well worn territory, critics are going to expect that you have a reason for going that way, and that is usually to do it better than anyone else has previously. As good as I think this film is, it took on too much that has been done before and did not raise the bar high enough as a result. I haven't read the book, but that it is probably the fault of the source material.

Great western. My only complaint is the pointless, anachronistic end title song. An authentic period song, or a new song composed and sung in that style, or just a continuation of the orchestral score would have been better.
