Why didn't they just replace Sizemore?

If Tom Sizemore's legal troubles were a good portion of the blame to the cancellation of RHD, why didn't the network just replace him with another actor? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Sizemore (despite his rotten personal life), but the show could have survived if they had killed off Sam Cole or had him retire or something, before having someone else fill in the gap. It certainly hasn't stopped the LAW AND ORDER franchise from moving on after replacing so many of its leading stars.

I agree...the show could have continued without him. He was great, but the show had a great supporting cast, and to me what made the show the most successful was Michael Mann, and the whole atmosphere of LA, very much like the movie Heat.

It's hard to believe Mann never directed an episode, because it was so much like the films he directed.

Yeah, I could think of a dozen actors that would have made a good replacement for Sizemore. Dennis Farina is one of them.

According to the show's trivia, Farina was up for the role but didn't get it. I think he would have made a good squad Lieutenant. He went on to play Joe Fontana on Law & Order a couple of years later.

Joe "We're authorized" Fontana: I can do this all day, Mitch. How about you?

I loved this show, but it just would not have been the same without him.
