it just couldnt have been done better

hello there dear movie lovers,

i finished watching open hearts maybe 10 minutes ago and i have this funny urge that has gotten inside of me that tells to write and share my thoughts...

so here i go:

i have enjoyed it very much and i truly do think that there isnt a single thing one would change in it that would make it better than what it already is.

about the story i would like to ask if anyone would agree with my opinion about the thoughts and decisions of the three main charechters, i believe that joachim says what he says and does what he does for Cæcilie's benefit, she on the other hand does what she does by thinking mainly of whats good for her and neils, well his the problamatic one for me because i would love to see in him something combining both but i think that frankly it is mainly his own good he is after.

i would really love to hear some opinions about this or even anything else that somehow connects.

i'll end by asking about sussane bier, i noticed that the 2 movies she made after open hearts dont have any dogme mentions on them (i mean here in this site), did she give up this sort of directing?

and one more question since ive seen him being mentioned in the posts over here, anyone knows whats going on with Von Trier's Wasington??

take care and no matter what they tell you stay faithful to yourselfes and never give up or put aside this great joy movies give you.

Yeah Neils is obviously the character that everyone will hate the most as he is only doing what hes doing for the most selfish of reasons. But they obviously made a film about it cos it does happen a lot in real life.

The saddest part was that he was still in good form with his wife, its not like they weren't intimate with each other, they were still very much in love but naturally greed took its toll and he'd decided he'd rather be sleeping with a younger, prettier model instead. Its a harsh reality really. It takes a certain type of person to say no to someone better looking, whether man or women, can't be turning into a man-hater here when i have heard of many stories of wives who also trade in their beloved husband for a better looking or richer man.

Its just sad that it happens when you have kids because now you are no longer cheating on your spouse but you're entire family too. You should really take them into account and realise the implications this will have on them later on in life. He seemed to clearly love his children but was still selfish enough to walk out on them. His wife was even willing to forgive him for his affair but he still walked and thats what made me hate his character. Well the affair first then the fact that he walked out on them and then the typical fact that he considered getting back with his wife only when his new girlfriend went back to her boyfriend.

Theres another danish film with a similar plot called Just Another Love Story, i really need to stop watching films like those. It really makes my blood boil!
Anyways sorry i don't know what happened to Sussanne Bier or Von Tier's film.

Ashmi any question

I heard Von Triers isn't finishing any of his trilogies. I agree that Niels is the least sympathetic character. But I think this film just explores people who are being pathetic. The strongest character in the flim is Joachim. Finally Niels has a scene where he acknowledges that he's basically a pathetic selfish dickhead and he's doing whatever he's told and you can see he realizes he's ruined his own life.
