Too obvious

This movie is too obvious. They are trying to be subtle, but in the end there are only 3 really good suspects. Once you throw out the old boyfriend and the partner, that leaves just the old SLJ's character. You can figure out whats going on about half way through the movie, but then theres no more surprises.

I agree, I had the murderer AND the motive pegged just 1/3 of the way through. It was clearly Samuel L. Jackson for 2 reasons:

1) - The other two suspects were OVERLY shifty, which means one thing - It's not gonna be either of them.

2) Samuel L. Jackson is a big BIG star, so it was surprising enough that he agreed to be in this *pointless, run of the mill - looks like it was made for TV* movie. Then you start watching it and you think "My God, not only is Jackson in this film, but he's BARELY in this film! He's only in a few a scenes, his character never does anything important...why would Jackson take on a role like this?" then BAM. You have your answer. He took the role because he's the killer, so his character IS in fact as important as the lead.

Pretty bad and seriously predictable film really...why did all these A Listers sign on?!

You should be a detective. I thought it was the person who killed her father and made it look like suicide but not who it turned out to be as I could not see when he would have the chance to spike the drinks. Garcia was in and out her apartment, so too was the ex-boyfriend but not once did the film show the murderer being a regular visitor and thus a prospective murderer having the opportunity to spike the wine bottle. I should watch more of these second rate movies, they make the good ones look really good.

reply

there were only three suspects: ashley, garcia and jackson. of course the first ones couldn´t be the murder. at the end of the film when it was "revealed" that jackson was the killer, i thinked: it supposed to be a secret?
for the guy who thinks jackson´s character is small, look at him in "Deep Blue Sea", he is eatten by a shark in 20 minutes, although his name is on the cover.

reply

Did you buy his motive for all of this? I was confused by it myself.

reply

I thought it was refreshing to have 3 suspects rather than the usual obvious 1.

reply

Well at first I thought Samuel Jackson but as the movie crept on I realized how bad and stupid it was so I thought maybe it could be Andy Garcia. I mean the script is sooooo bad that I thought maybe it was possible. Doesn't really matter who it was though because it would of been a stupid choice no matter what. If it was Andy it would be dumb because he was very obvious and had no motive. If it was her ex bf it would be dumb because he was even more obvious and if it was Judd herself it would of been dumb because well I don't think ppl just black out and kill ppl. Samuel was just plain dumb because well hes in it for about 2 mins. The old lady next door would of been a better choice then all of them.

w/e..I was still surprised when Samuel L Jackson was the real killer...just because he's a big star, doesn't mean u have to think it might be him cuz he doesn't even appear in the movie that much, therefore why would he be there at all. When you're from another country and u know nothing about the actors,if it's a rapper, or if it's a big shot or a small shot, you get to enjoy movies more than when you know such things as I wrote in the first sentance.

reply

Yeah, I figured it was Sam from the preview on TV. Why else would they call it "twisted?"

reply

Yep, way too obvious. With these types of films you just pick the person you'd least expect BUT is one of the main characters. It would have been so much better if it was revealed that Mr. T was the killer. I pity the fool that drinks the wine filled with Rohypnol!

I'm very sorry for your loss. Your mother was a terribly attractive woman.

hahahahaha oh my god i haven't read a post this funny in ages <3
hum.

well i didnt get who did it till very late in the film, i originally thought it was the shrink. heh
but i did wonder throughout the movie "why oh why did Samuel agree to do this? hmmm...is it?? nah..it'd be even dumber than the movie itself"
the ex boyfriend option wasnt even plausible. remember how Jackson's character makes him look like a fool in the beggining? this guy couldnt be such a "careful" serial killer.
and the partner theory doesnt stick either, apart from lack of motive etc (which in a movie this bad, perhaps it doesnt even matter as one can be made up in the end or whatev), when he lights a cig, he uses matches. there's no annoying yet oh so *scary* clickety click click in that.

My *beep* so cool that when he goes to bed, sheep count him.

i actually thought it was the asian woman that lived across the street from her.

Thanks for warning me that you were talking about spoilers in this thread... the frigging movie just started on TNT and now why should I bother watching...?

Sheesh

reply

Perhaps you shouldn't have opened a thread that said "too obvious" till AFTER you watched it. I logged on simply to confirm my guess.

I got too bored and now it's off to watch house.

BTW, I find it embarrassing that this movie cost $50 million to make* and even more embarrassed that's it's almost earned enough to cover its losses.

It's terrible!

The movie is a murder mystery. The title of the thread was Too Obvious. What did you think was going to be discussed?

I already figured it was SLJ, and I only watched the first 20 minutes on TNT. Spoilers? Seriously?

For that matter, most of these posts were from years ago, when the movie came out. So no one who originally posted was going to be around to feel bad about spoiling the big secret.

reply

It doesn't matter if it says "Too obvious." You still have to identify *SPOILERS* you jerks. "Too obvious" could have meant an ambiguity- as in "it was too obvious who the killer is" and not even mention who it actually was. I hope the administrator revokes your IMDB privileges.

I'd never heard of this movie until a few minutes ago, while reading Rotten Tomatoes 100 Worst Films. As soon as I read the plot I was like, "Samuel L. Jackson is the killer" and I came to the message board specifically to find out if I was right. I was hoping that I was wrong...that I did not really solve this movie's "mystery" without having ever seen a second of it or having ever even heard of it...but goodness help me, I did.

Totally agree. I knew 15 minutes into the movie it couldn't be Ashley's character, because that would just be too simple. It also became increasingly obvious that her partner was just a red herring. I strongly suspected Jackson pretty early into the movie. I thought his motive would be that he secretely loved her and didn't want to see her with other men, and I was right.

reply

i really kind of wish they would of kept the lighter clicking sound not in the background cause you kind of knew every time the killer would strike while ashley judd's character was passed out. and then you knew that when sam jackson has the lighter you knew he was the killer and has a motive being he was overprotective and did not want the same mistakes judd's character mother did
