Could a single raptor catch up with the Galactica?

I'm just watching the first season and when Helo and Boomer are back on Cylon controlled Caprica they are talking about finding a raptor or some other kind of vessel and I assume returning to Galactica.

But could they really ever find the fleet at that point? I mean the ships are jumping thru space over and over so how could those two guys ever actually track them down even if they could find a spaceship?

The only thing I can think of is that they knew the course Galactica was taking, and headed back the same way. After the first few days of constant jumps and the destruction of the cylon "spy" ship that kept giving them away, they didn't have to jump all the time anymore. Not a perfect answer, but it's all I've got.

Here's to the health of Cardinal Puff.

The raptor was always on a direct course, while the Galactica was taking longer times between jumps in order to search for resources such as water. The raptors were making jumps every few hours while Galactica was waiting upwards of a day to jump.
