I still don't get the nukes

I mean they have FTL travel, androids so realistic they cannot be detected, etc.

But the best weapons they have are the same ones we do now ?

Those were called "newkes", as they were the new "space people future style" nukes.

Besides that, what could you really do to top a nuke?

In the miniseries commentary, the director talked about how they used nukes because it sounds scarier to the viewer than plasma torpedo, or whatever other techno-babble name they could come up with. The sight of mushroom clouds and use of the term nuke still resonates strongly with us today as the most horrific thing that could happen; so, having nukes a' popping all over Caprica was the best way to drive home the horror and finality of the attack. It's also part of making it feel like a more "real" world; having conventional weapons like nukes, and guns that fire bullets instead of lasers.

Antimatter. Just 1 Kilogram is more powerful than the most powerful Nuke we've ever detonated. 10 KG could destroy all life on Earth. Scientist currently can produce a gram for 25 billion dollars.

I'm pretty sure they have antimatter since I can't think of anything that could achieve the power levels for FTL without getting into the fringe sciences.

Yea, and any ordinary thunderstorm produces it for free. What a bummer.

Isn't antimatter creation related to nuclear physics, if I am not wrong the nuclear weapons we have today aren't as effective in space as in the Earth's atmosphere. Maybe calling them nukes is just slang, something like the antimatter technology is probably behind the massive energy needs for FTL, weapons etc.. Also as someone said the delivery systems were also much advanced.
