They say the TV series is better.

Is that possible?

Robert Downey Jr. at his very peak.

Oh it's possible. If you liked this movie, you really should check out the miniseries.

I will, recently BBC has released the DVDs.

Did you like de movie?

The movie was pretty good. It was obviously not going to be able to cover as much ground as a 6+ hour miniseries, but Potter hit most of the important touchstones and Downey and Penn were excellent (Gibson sorta sucked). My biggest problem with the movie was that the director kept throwing in all these inconsistent, half-assed stylistic touches in the "noir" sections that were really distracting and didn't add anything to the movie. Potter's material works best (IMO) when it's filmed in an extremely low-key, understated style.

Yeah the mini series wins on every level. The film is rubbish in comparison.

reply

It certainly is possible!!

Robert Downey at his peak, good though he can be, is no match for the virtuoso performance of Michael Gambon.
It's something of a shame that Mr. Gambon's vast talent is being wasted by small roles in dull Hollywood films, like that woeful Sky Captain thing.

Now I have the series and I am going to see it. Let's see if you all are right and I have missed such a wonderful work. I din't know that Michael Gambon had been cast in Sky Captain, which, by the way, dissapointed me.

Comparing the tv series to the film is like comparing a gourmet meal to a McDonald's happy meal!

Its that man again!!

I had no idea there was a film version! The TV series has to be one of the greatest pieces of television ever produced. I really can't imagine that any re-make (especially one with RDJr!) could come anywhere close. But I shall watch it and decide.
