Few films tackle the nuances of marriages/relationships. But, here's some films that do a decent job:
5X2 (French film by François Orzon) - The curious thing about this film is that it's told backwards. That is, it starts off with a scene where a husband and wife finalize their divorce and then linger in a hotel room, tension brewing and interests clashing. The film then takes you back across a series of events in their marriage, all the way to the first day they met. The whole thing leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, but the acting is superb and it ends up being very gripping.
And - I hesitate to mention this film - THE LAST KISS with Zach Braff actually does hit the nail in some respects when it comes to relationship turmoil, much more than the (in my opinion) overrated The Break-Up. Now, The Last Kiss is a flawed film and on the whole the script doesn't flow well enough, but some scenes succinctly capture the agony that ensues when two people love each other but succumb to doubts and insecurities.
Finally, on a lighter note: KISSING JESSICA STEIN. Despite being a quirky comedy, it does tackle break-ups realistically. A lot of people find the film annoying, or not "realistic" enough... I don't know. I think it takes two specific characters and very specifically demonstrates why THEY can't work as a couple. And it's completely convincing. If only mainstream rom-coms could deal with reality in the same way!
Well, can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
