Disturbing

Ouch, that hurt. I fell into a trap. Though Ackbar said: "it's a trap!" i couldn't resist. And there it was, the Superlaser. My precious time got hit one by one, minute by minute, leading into 2 hours wasted.

Now that is a lil' bit overdramatic. A friend of mine warned me to not watch this movie. My curiousity and the ability to watch easily lead to me watching it. I'm sorry to everyone who put hard work into this movie since i can clearly see there was done hard work. I'm left with thinking what the purpose of this movie was. There were certainly some nice aspects about it, at least that's my opinion, but what was the purpose? An egocentric bitch who can't say "sorry", who can't look futher than her nose long is? In the end she says "sorry" but that path went from 0 to 1. I don't see much development on her admitting her mistakes; in fact when she says sorry she still acts like she's the most important person on the World. She never said she *beep* the other boy. It was all zipped into a lil' "sorry". Now that's a way of "forgetting the past": just don't talk about it! Sooner or later it comes out anyway, and being honest is better imo. But maybe these 2 persons can't give a rat who does it with who.

Somehow, Giphart always puts these egocentric characters in his books: Giph, Phileine zegt sorry, Ik ook van jou, De voorzitter. While Ik ook van jou had some kind of message, i can't see this movie has one, because it was basically the same character in both movies: a narcist. I'm thinking the same about De Voorzitter, and regarding Giph i can't remember enough about it anymore but if my memory serves right this was true in some extend as well.

Some nice aspects i liked about the movie were (contains minor spoilers): Actors interacting directly with the viewer via the camera, the acting in general, Max mentioning Ik ook van jou. I didn't liked the Space Odyssey rip-off scenes, i found these cheesy. Sometimes the movie falls flat or boring imo, when it is more of the same of what happened before. I'm not particulary interested in how Phileine is gonna put the next person in the mud in her arrogant delight.

It is obviously not a serious movie nor am i a person liking this style of combination of romance/fun/action. If you prefer movies with a message, want to think about the movie, want to liberate your mind. Do not watch this movie. It is a waste for that kind of purpose.

However if you like some fast, active ridiculous although funny actions by an impulsive girl (though in a slightly different way than Angela Schijf in Ik ook van jou) then i'd recommend this movie.

Oh well, my 2 euro cent.

my opinion is that you can only like this movie when you're dutch, it's real dutch humor, and americans don't understand that... ^.^

reply

I guess the humor is very Dutch indeed, but since I grew up with it I think it's okay.
I usually hate romantic comedies, because they're not really funny and very predictable.
But I really liked 'Phileine zegt sorry' a lot, just because Phileine has a way with words, instead of being the average cute/shy girl.
I really like her character, although it would be quite annoying to know such a person in real life...
It's not a movie to think about, but that's usual to comedies.
I think it's really romantic though and I love Giphart's style.
So I gave it a 8 / 10.

It is such a dumb movie; the characters were all so stupid and all very flat.

It betrayed the typical Dutch/European insecurity disguised as superiority towards the USA and American movies.

Bore!!!

I'm Dutch and I must agree with you that this movie completely sucked. The main character annoyed the *beep* out of me. But I think the movie was made primarily for younger teens (13 - 16) as these are also the people reading Ronald Gipharts books.

About the Dutch/European insecurity: you're a narrow-minded moron.

I thought the acting was really good. I didn't feel uncomfortable watching them. Had some rich scenes but overall the lack of character development showcased made it seem pointless to me.
