Is 'Gulpje' Flemish?

Hello,

careful viewers may have noted that Gulpje doesn't speak the exact same Dutch. (at some points, Phileine is slightly amused because of her choice of words) My first guess was that she is Flemish because she certainly does talk like one (=like me for instance ) but when I visit the imdb-page on Hadewych Minis, I find that she is from Maastricht in the Netherlands, and that practically all of her work was Dutch and not Flemish. And she didn't really sound like someone from Limburg either
Can anyone explain this a bit?

hey fredbell, long time no see

anyway, the character is from Flanders, since Phileine says that on one instant. I thought she said something like, I knew no one so I went out with the flemish girl Gulpje. So she is clearly a Flemish character. Not all Dutch actors have such a heavy accent as we're used to, so that might've been why would actually think she is Flemish.

Didn't you also find it coincidental that a Flemish person is "the heartless bitch" in this movie while she saw her mistakes. Typical for a Dutch movie to have the Flemish as that kind of character I think.

I'm just surprised that she can play a Flemish woman while she isn't one. I know actors who have done the opposite thing though(like Jan Decleir in "Meiden van de Wit" or "Sil de strandjutter")....

Actually, this is quite common behavior : when Flemings and Dutch are abroad, they often hang together.
When I was in New York, I was surprised to hear that much Dutch spoken in the streets...

About Gulpje being a bitch, Phileine was a bitch just as a well (I thought they deserved each other...)
(And I have never ever met anyone -Dutch or Flemish- whose name was "Gulpje"..)

yeah but Phileine turned "good" at the end.

And maybe Gulpje is a nickname? You never know anymore nowadays, kids named Google (that's no joke, it's true. Saw this at my Dutch course 2 years ago)

Gulpje's character is flemisch but the actrice is from Holland.
She tries to do a flemisch accent, you can hear it's not 100% flemisch (I can hear it anyway, I am flemisch) but because she tries you can hear a diffirence between Gulpje and Phileine

I don't think bitch is appropriate for either woman, they just refused to pander to swollen male egos. It was pretty nasty of that American bloke to try to show off Gulpje to his drinking buddies as though she was his latest toy.

I'm more interested in how to pronounce Gulpje. I had the sound turned down low because the movie was on so late, so I didn't quite catch how Phileine said it.
