Heather Graham's acting skills ...

Well, I just saw three or four of her movies and I don't think that she has much talent anyway, but I really think that she did a horrible job in Hope Springs.

whereas i think in this one she was pretty passable. i've seen her do much worse. maybe its just that this script was so simple that it didnt really require her to be a great actress. i liked the movie but it is a fairly simple, cliche rehash of a rehash...of a romantic comedy formula. what i liked about it was that heather's character didnt hate him in the start but grow to love him - i'm so sick of that formula it has been done to death.

yeah i'm in agreement with u original poster!! especially when she said to colin's character (doh can't rem his name!! such a bad memory!!) "i thought we had something special" after she'd just found out about his dad's 'operation'. i just kinda cringed...that was her ultime highlight :)

agreed - her acting in this movie is pretty rotten...and sadly on par with much of her other film work. however, i must say she has surprised me in other genres - she was great on 'arrested development' (season 1 - "shock and aww"). she's also really good in the first bit of the fourth season of 'scrubs.' playing up the air-head blonde really works for her - it looks effortless (might actually be), and she really does deliver in that context. i mean, i could hardly believe i was watching the same girl...still, romantic comedy - not her niche.

i also agree that it's unfair to lump colin firth in with the mess of some of this film. blame the screenwriters, etc...but there will never be a day when i won't love colin firth in any film, no matter how poorly adapted from the novel.

I can't understand why so many people dislike Heather Graham. As the last poster said in relation to her striptease, I think she is a delightful mix of innocence and sexuality. I loved her as Mandy. She was sweet and quirky and I loved her quick mood changes in the film. She plays a similar sort of character in 'Boogie Nights', a mixture of innocence and playfulness but she was also very believable beating the guy up with her roller skates and she captured perfectly the restlessness of her character.

What acting skills?

umm, skills, lol. She has a nice pair of skills. If you need a cute blond for nude scene's, dial 1-900-HEATHER. Pretty much her career.
Acting skills, meh, has never impressed me in anything.

I always love it when people comment about acting skills as if 1) all but the most basic skill had that much to do with a final performance, and 2) as if the commentor could do a better job. Perhaps commentary might be better received if the one giving it provided his/her own creds before passing a negative judgment. I think this actress did a fine job is is as good, or better than 90% of the working actresses out there today.
