This movie is a great example on a couple of things:
a) when going off Plan A - *beep* will get complicated
b) in humanitarian crisis in dangerous areas both a civilian AND a military force is necessary: the mission with the small hospital is great in peace time, but once the situation becomes too hot you gotto ditch the "good Samaritan" and GTFO
c) mixing "civilian thinking" (the dr Kendricks) into a military search and recover mission is a recipe for disaster

IMHO they let the voice of a civilian have way too much of a saying in a military operation. Sure, she's a doctor, so that weighs heavily. But the moment they were in the bird the first time they should just have headed straight back to the carrier. Mission gets FUBARED? Well... war is hell. Can't save everyone.
