Who shot the machete-wielding man in the village?

When the man surprises Lt Waters and slashes his arm w the machete he is gunned down by a man with a rifle. He and Waters exchange a stare and nothing more is said. Is it a survivor from the village? Is it one of the refugees travelling with the SEALs, and if so how did he sneak away from the SEALs on overwatch?

I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy!

One of the refugees traveling with the SEALs. The bodyguard for the prince to be exact and the guy Bruce Willis threatened to execute.

So he just snuck away from the overwatch and went to the village to help? I can't imagine the SEALs would send him.

The bodyguard, royal family member and others did not trust the Americans. The bodyguard probably snuck away in order to see for himself if the Americans could be trusted. He learned the answer and responded accordingly. At least that's my take on the situation...

That's probably about right. Kind of a trivial blip in the movie for me to raise a question over. Seemed very out of place. Almost like they just needed an excuse for someone other than an American to kill a rebel.

It was George the President's son's bodyguard.
