This movie is a mess

Everything about this movie is sloppy--historically and technically. One should have been able to get up some rage at the treatment of Argentine citizens but with Antonio doing his "Sixth Sense" schtick it just wasn't possible. Emma Thompson's over-acting made me cringe. This movie needs to be buried.

I'm from Argentina. And I don't think the same way. It may not be historically 100% accurate (according to my parents), but it shows a piece of our history that it must not be forgotten. From my point of view, this was a good movie, and it's because of Antonio's "Sixth Sense" we are able to see what happened in the "centers of clandestine detention"(that's the name of the places people were held against their will), I know that it may be hard for some people to watch those horrible scenes (even for me), but we have to assume that it happened, it really happened. I don't know if you heard about it, but there's a book called "NUNCA MÁS" (Never More). It has the testimonies of survivors of this event, I never read the book, but a teacher once read only one testimony, it was horrible, and believe it or not it was true. So, this may have sounded boring, but I just wanted to express my feelings, and why this isn't (from where I stand) a bad movie, it was just one fictitious situation inside a real history, the history of my country.

I agree with Pampi. I thought that this emotional approach to showing what can go on in a dictatorship really was shocking. There have been many documentaries about what went on in Nazi Germaany for instance, but by their nature documentaries give ( I hope) a fairly accurate description of the facts and leave it to the viewer to try and imagine how people felt. Sadly I believe many of us have become jaded by these and I am sure that this film attempts a fresh approach. As with all first attempts it will be flawed. Anyway it reached me.

The question is not whether the facts that are narrated by the movie are shocking or not, no one is (or would, I hope) say it's a boring subject. The fact is that the movie is horribly written and directed. Indeed, it's so much more disappointing when one knows how shocking these events were, and how they still haunt many people today. From an artistic point of view, in terms of structure and narration, the film is rubbish because it really is sloppy and pretentious.

It certainly does attempt a fresh approach, the point is that is fails 100 percent. As far as I'm concerned this is just an observation, I'm aware it's not an easy task. But if you choose such a strong subject for a first big attempt, you shouldn't... well, try so hard. Of course, whether or not it reaches you is a completely different story.

this movie is fantastic and that s it

What you are criticizing is an aspect of this story that was already in the book this movie is based on. This is a sub-genre known as "Magical Realism", which basically means that the story is fantasy set in a historical background.

I agree this was wasted opportunity and could have had more of emotion.
