VERY STRANGE rating system...

very strange thing here:
i kinda watched the development of the ratings for filantropica.
couple of weeks ago it had 8.6 @ 2600+ votes.
now within weeks it sunk to 7.6 (now @ 2853 votes) (it seems pretty unlikely that there were over 200 "1" votes within days)
so ...can anyone explain to me the rating system of the imdb??? :D

IMDb ratings are so strange!

there you have The Shawshank Redemption having more votes and higher score Than The Godfather yet the latter somehow manages to stay in the 1st place.

Not that I think TSR is the best movie ever. But it should be at the top of the rankings due the highest rating and number of votes. I guess...

IMDB ignores certain votes in its 250 top list system on account of people's bias and attempt to change the total voting average. Like for instance if you give the Godfather "1" just to lower its rating then chances are your vote will be ignored, since the median is about 8-9. i.e. you're giving the movie 1 because the rating is high not because you think it actually deserves 1.

Strange how they know when you're rating something a one just to change its score... What if somebody really does hate the movie that much? :)
