Can someone please explain the plot and backstory to me ?

I really like this game, but one of the biggest problems I had with it was getting into its story. I never could figure out exactly what happened so long ago with all the Gods, what Nerevarine is supposed to do (Ashlanders tell me he's meant to cast out all foreigners and the Empire, but I thought that was Dagoth Ur's plan), why and how the Tribunal all betrayed Nerevar and how it all came to be ? Can someone give me an abridged version of this ? It would really help, thanks.

You won't be able to fully appreciate Morrowind unless you're willing to do a fair bit of reading in the game, be it dialogue, or some of the many historical texts you can find lying around. However, if you want something a little more concise, not to mention searchable, try UESPWiki:

That should help to fill you in. Unfortunately, they don't have much on the Nerevarine.
