Generals better than tiberium wars

I do NOT understand why most people hate c & c generals, calling it a huge disappointment and all that. Alright, it doesn't have tiberium in it and no NOD and GDI. It is a strategic game with building units to bring down those of your opponent. I think generals is better than tiberium wars.
I find TB a fantastic game, but generals is better, simply because its more relistic. While TB works with aliens, cyborgs and alien stuff called tiberium, generals has these weapons that really exist. The MOAB, the tomahawk, SCUDs, pathfinders and terrorist that use tunnels, its all there.
Am I the only one who thinks so?

"Except for the Ion Cannon, Toxin Tractor, Scud Storm, Avenger, Microwave Tank, ECM Tank, Overlord Tank, Laser Crusader Tank, Mini-Gunners, Nuke Cannon, and Colonel Burton. I think one of the generals had laser infantry."

Alright, you have a point, but TW just feels more like "science-fiction" than generals, because, as said, its aliens, cyborgs (avatars, if you will), and tiberium. Maybe because generals has some real factions (USA, china and, though in real not nearly that powerful, a terrorist organisation). Anyway, everyone has a different opinion on this one.

Oh, and thanx for your advice regarding company of heroes.

Actually,
Laser technology isn't science fiction and its far more advanced than what they show in generals the only problem with it is that it is apparently too
big and smaller ones don't pack as much of a punch as wanted.
SCUDs already exist and can "potentially" be fired in salvos to male a "SCUD storm"
Mini-guns like the ones shown in generals do exist and are used if mounted on something but again they are too big and heavy.
Tractors can "potentially" be modified to spray lethal acids but this would be too ineffective and stupidly complicated to be of any use.
Artillery can be modified to use nuclear shells to make the "nuke cannon" but it would be far too destructive compared to what they show in Generals so is not used.
Any good soldier can be trained like colonel Burton and even more.
Try watching Discovery Channel and History Channel from time to time. You'll be surprised at what you may see.Even something like a weather control device from Red Alert 2 is in the process of being built it only requires too much power.

sponge11,

"I know, but we are still a ways off from using lasers like the ones in this game and its expansion."
I already mentioned that but I think you might have forgotten that Generals is set somewhere between 2030-2045.By that time laser technology could be successfully miniaturized. In fact, something like the Avenger has already been tested but putting a miniaturized heat laser on a Humvee.

"I know SCUDs exist. The ones in this game would be a rare sight in the real world."
The game is set in a fictional future world, the weapons are based on possible future models of today's weapons.

"I know Miniguns exist. But people carrying them while on foot is so unreal its not even funny."
The developers could have imagined the miniguns could be made lighter in the future by using lighter metals like aluminum instead of heavy steal.

"No they can't. Real people can be crushed by vehicles. Also thier guns wouldn't be as destructive. Colonel Burton is pretty much a parody of Rambo."
This is a fun game not a simulation of war so they needed to give the hero characters some edge otherwise you could never win missions where you only have to use col. Burton,Jarmen Kell or Black Lotus with little support.

All RPG games need to just imagine a few things just for the sake of balancing the factions.

Do you have any idea how impractical modern lasers actual are as a weapon. Their energy efficiency is less than 40%. And lasers that are even remotely effective (as in, can case small burns in small things) are huge and have to be mounted on a huge platform. Realistically we won't see any effective use of laser weaponary 15-20 years from now.

There are more problems than just the weight of the gun. There is also the weight and size of the ammo. Plus, the recoil of the weapon would make is impossible to aim.

I thought you said that generals was good because it was realistic. Now you are saying it is a fun wargame? Make up your mind!

Because its not like other C&C games. No sidebar and no storyline are big failures. No wait, did I say big? I mean *beep* huge. I would like to know what the hell they were thinking when it came to this.
