Surprised it was written by a man - it's a specifically female fantasy
Find a man and 'fix' him. The scene with her father makes it expressly clear that the idea we're supposed to find heartwarming is that a woman can take a man and make him better, even if it means he has to give up things that make him happy. She can dominate him and make him eat tofu when he wants cheesecake.
How romantic...
I'm not suggesting that it's bad for people to improve, but this fantasy women seem to have that they're going to make a man change, improve him, re-mould him into something he's not, is responsible for SO much unhappiness in relationships in the real world. Women need to stop looking for an imperfect man they can fix and start looking for an imperfect man they can love.
