Is the basis for this a reality in Europe?

Are all the numbers that Sellberg gives out about organized crime in Europe and how many banks they have taken over, etc., true?

I realize this post is two years old, but just for the record:

No. Not at all. Not nearly.

I just watched it now for the first time. The movie is 12 years old, and at the time these speculations were running rampant because the news media (which I was a part of) and the entertainment industry was just becoming aware of this phenomenon, and did their usual thing: Exaggerating wildly and predicting the end of the world. Of course it had some truth to it, and some of these problems still exists, but I was facepalming through most of the tirades in the dialogue where absurd numbers were being rattled off as facts.

Organized crime, financial and otherwise, is and has always been a large international problem, obviously -- but if it was anywhere near the level they're hallucinating about in this movie, we would have been under rule of eastern European gangsters for years at this point. It's a thriller movie, and sadly both this and the movie before it ("Livvakterna") is painfully dated, unlike the first movie in the series ("Noll tolerans"), which still holds up quite well.

IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.
