Suikoden was the game that originally got me interested in RPGs, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. Ironically, FF VII was the second RPG I played, and after that I was hooked on the genre for good. So it's hard for me to say which of these two would ultimately be the more significant one in my mind. Still, they're both masterpieces.

I'm up for Suikoden(1 and 2 were the best) all the way even tho I still like the FF games(the old ones ending with 9).

If I am not mistaken, Suikoden won Game of The Year in 1996, and Suikoden 2 beat Final Fantasy again as Game of The Year in 1999. With these two accomplishments, it really disappointed me to see Suikoden 3 go to a more Final Fantasy format.

Suikoden and Suikoden 2 are automatic entries whenever someone asks me to name the Top 5 or Top 10 best video games. Both have had a strong influence on my Dungeon and Dragons games, both in flavor, and in such a wide variety of NPC's to copy from characters in these games.

In fact, back in the late 1990's, if somebody wanted to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons, before I'd teach them, I'd insist that they play through Suikoden 1, to introduce them to the concept of ongoing quests and the many different character types you could opt to play.
