This game was Messed

i remember there was this one big battle (the war levels between the liberation army and the imperials, i think lol) where you like, attack, defend, special, and lose some soldiers and kill some soldiers.

its usually like 50 vs 50 or something.

Anyways, there was this one level where i think there are flamethrowers involved, and you are supposed to lose. I remember i kept getting close to losing every time playing that battle so i trained pretty much everyone in the liberation army that was necessary and BAM i won.

Then i found out that ur supposed to lose, and even if you somehow win, you still get treated as you lost. Lame.

Also, i remember a battle between tir (main character, whtever his name was) and some dude, and all u had to do was keep defending and you would win. If he attacked you would block, if he blocked, nothing happened, and if he used special (defense being the weakness of special) you would get to do dmg to him. So cheap lol.

And that's why this game is "messed"? Don't you know that sometimes you're MEANT to lose because the story was written that way?

Especially in Suikoden, some characters are recruited only if you let them live.

And as far as the battles, it was a new, unique way of fighting. If you were old enough to remember the way games had battles way back then, then you would have appreciated Suikoden's battle system better. It wasn't just a 50/50 thing.

Shine sweet freedom, shine your light on me.

it seems like u completely missed my point lol.

the fact was that i played this level, and kept coming close to losing every time (turning it off before i did), then i learned that if u train all the random characters, ur soldiers for that level are stronger even though they are all homogenized in the actual fight (they all look the same)

so what i did was i went back to an old save file and leveled the *beep* out of everyone. I leveled everyone a ton, then went to the battle confident, then won! Then i find out that even though i won, it still tells me i lost. So i didnt need to level all my soldiers, as i didnt need to win lol. It ALWAYS bothered me because u really arent supposed to be able to win, but with work its possible. Thats pretty lame to make it a possibility but have nothing to back it up with.

back in 95 tho, games always did that. it wud be like:

npc: "do you wanna kill joe??"

you: "yes"

npc: "nah you dont want to do that, so do we kill joe?"

you: "yes"

npc: "nah you dont want to do that, so do we kill joe?"

rinse and repeat.

I was like 9 or 10 at the time i played this game so u can imagine how annoyed i was when i was told i lost after spending so much time leveling lol
