And not because of his pseudo (although such political naïveté doesn't bode well), but because he talks about this film and "Intimate Ennemy" has having a similar background with "Incendies". Do you have ever looked at a map in your life? You really give your countrymen a bad name for the stereotype of Yanks not knowing anything about the world outside the US. "Incendies" is about the war in Lebanon, the others are about the Algerian War. Now open Google maps and look how much of an idiot you are.
Algeria is in North Africa, it was a decolonization war between the French colonist and the native Algerian FLN with the French-Algerians caught in the middle complicating the situation.

Lebanon is in the middle east, the war (wars, actually) there were about a sovereign state in a drawn out ethno-religious civil war, then invaded by Israel so they could carve themselves a Lebensraum. Off course it's a simplistic way of explaining it because there also was a lot of complex elements, different groups of Muslims and Christian fighters, massacres like Sabra and Shatila perpetrated by Phalangists while Israel forces blocked the exits and provided support and illumination (and even worse depending on who you believe), terrorism, etc. I couldn't expose it properly in an imdb thread.

But it is clear that these two conflicts don't have much to do with each other, but I imagine for a Stereotypical Yank like you, well, it's all arabs killing people so it's the same background.
