small town?

My question is wasnt the town they lived in a small town? I just kind of got that feeling at the beginning of the movie. because the police department was really small and stuff. but then denzell and whats her name are haveing an affair and walking around together so you would think someone might notice. and also no one seemed to recognize denzell ( the cheif of police). so it also seemed like a big city. So if it was a big city why did they have such a tiny police station? and if it was a small city, why was the hospital sorta big and no one recognixed them?

I was thinking of the hospital when anne and matt go and anne finds out she has "cancer". Wasnt it kind of big with several floors. i guess it could have been small but i got the impression it was pretty good. then matt and alex go back to that hospital. thanks for your help

The movie was filmed in a small town....Placida, Florida and Boca Grande, Florida which is an island off the Gulf Coast of SW Florida. Placida and Boca are connected by a bridge. Consider perhaps that Boca is a tourist town, with many unknown faces. Placida has only a sub-station for a police station. The large Police Complex is in Port Charlotte, Fl. But, the hospital in the area is "sorta" big.
Perfect place setting for the movie, IMHO.

Yeah it was Banyan Key an hour and half drive from Miami.
