How has he been type casted? I've never seen him in any similar roles such as Clark Kent/Superman.
And yes its nice to see him in a mainstream film.

He was really good in the movie "The Perfect Husband" portraying Scott Peterson. In watching it you almost forget he's the nice guy who once played the nerdy Clark Kent. He neds these different type roles to test his acting skills.
