Out of Time would be at or near enough the bottom. Not because Denzel was bad in it, just that the film itself was a pile of crap.

I thought Philadelphia would be up there, no?

reply

just gotta say Man on Fire is number 1
that movies the best

reply

what would be your guy's entire top ten favs thou?cheers mates

Defo Man on Fire!!!!! :p dogs bollocks movie!!

reply

Yes! Man on Fire.

reply

me personally his only "stand out" movies for "me" are...

1. Training Day (if i had to pick one denzel film this would be it, to me this is his bread and butter movie)
2. Man On Fire (this is a close second)
------------------
then the rest...

3.Fallen (this is probably my third)

then everything else give or take.... none of his films are bad though, even though some are better than others.

Exactly, same here, both movies are a 9/10 for me. Maybe 1 scene was great too in American Ganster, when he slaps that cup of coffee in front of Russel Crowe, that was classic Denzel.

reply

definitely man of fire wouldn't be on the list, for me.
philadelphia's good as well as this flick, out of time. training day's neat as well. nuff said.

1. Training Day
2. The Hurricane
3. John Q
4. Remember The Titans
5. Philadelphia
6. Man On Fire
7. Devil In A Blue Dress
8. Inside Man
9. The Manchurian Candidate
10.The Bone Collector

I'm sad ( and ashamed) to admit I haven't got around to seeing Malcolm X or Deja Vu yet. Glory I saw a very long time ago so I don't remember too much of it. So these three movies aren't in the list.

Cheers

Man on Fire was the best film I have watched in 5 years. People either loved or hated Deja Vu, I loved it. As for the other 8 in the 'top 10', no time right now : )

reply

3. Deja Vu
4. Inside Man
5. The Hurricane
6. The Manchurian Candidate

Man On Fire had everything you could want in a revenge movie including a masterful ending. The sound track tore through me in particular parts(dont want to post spoilers) the acting was brillant and every role played there part. It was a truly stunning film

reply

im surprised only one person has mentioned remember the titans

reply

I think that's because high school football flicks are kind of played out.

I can't make a full top ten list, but I really enjoyed:

i cant say what his Top 10 are, but i can say what his Top 3 are (i have not seen all of his films, but i seen a pretty high percentage of them)...

i think Denzel's only 'stand out' films are...

-Training Day (9-10/10) (this is probably his best film)
-Man on Fire (8-9/10, i gave it a 8 though)
-Deja Vu (8-9/10, i went with a 9 though)

then everything else is a distant 4th or so.

as for my 4th choice i would probably take 'Fallen' (8/10) .. 'Out of Time' (7/10) was fairly decent to.

Inside Man (6/10)... was quite weak overall cause besides the ending i thought the film was very average (below average for a Denzel film) and it's not really a film i would care to watch more than once or so especially not on DVD... it might be a 'OK for TV' sorta thing though.

p.s. i have not seen Malcom X ... which i can almost predict Denzel will give a good performance but as far as 'overall entertainment' it wont be anywhere near the level of the three i listed above.... and i also have not seen Glory (which will probably be pretty good but i still dont expect it to be better than the three i listed but who knows ;) )

I'm surprised American Gangster isn't getting more love. That's probably my favorite Denzel film. I really liked Inside Man too.

Your love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind.

reply

I find denzel can be a bit over earnest in some films. I mostly like him when he isn't given too much time to get to outraged. Which means I don't like him in court room scenes. Having said that when he's good he's very good. I actually prefer him in trashy films rather than dramas.

I think Devil in a Blue Dress is my fave.

reply

My favorite Denzel Washington film is "Ricochet", but "Out of Time" might be my second favorite. My wild card may be "American Gangster". "Devil in a Blue Dress", I can dig as well (it has Jennifer Beals!)
