So they ruined their entire lives and went underground for 450k?

They destroyed their house and would have to underground, all for 150k each? How does that make any sense? Wouldn't it have been better just to fake a death for the million dollar policy?

Good point. But if you faked your death, who cashes in on the million dollar policy? Lol that's the problem. Why they BOTH decided to fake their deaths is beyond me vs one of them fake the death and get the 1 million.

Yeah, that's what I meant. No need to involve Denzel, you know, the chief of police.

You know what? Excellent point. If you just make Paul Cabott the beneficiary for both, that's 2 million dollars and no need to involve the police chief. The only thing I could think of is that they wanted the cold hard cash right then and there without having to wait for the insurance payout. Short of robbing a bank ala HEAT, getting the cash directly from Denzel seems like the more feasible option. Not a lot of cash three ways.

But then there wouldn't be a twisty-plot movie. Sometimes you just have to relax and enjoy it.

I liked this movie. Denzel and Eva Mendes made a hot couple.

They weren't particularly wealthy to begin with and Ann Merai (Sanaa Lathan's character) didn't want to "live broke."

To people of their means, $150K (tax free) plus new identities can be plenty to start with. Add to that Ann Merai's apparent desperation to get away from that small town, and $450K starts to look pretty appealing.
